Swansea University Bay Campus
Swansea University Bay Campus
The development of the Bay Campus will create a huge regeneration boost not just for Neath Port Talbot but the whole of Swansea Bay and beyond.
Project Information
Construction started in April 2013 at Neath Port Talbot’s Fabian Way site with developer St. Modwen agreeing terms with the university to establish the £150m campus. The main contractors on the campus were Vinci Construction UK and Leadbitter Group.
Planning permission was secured in December 2012 for the campus to be built on the 65 acre site which was acquired from BP in 2009 and has been remediated. The development includes 430,000 sq ft of academic space, 899 student flats and associated retail space. Outline planning permission was secured for future phases of the development which would be more than £300m in value.
In July 2014, St Modwen appointed Galliford Try as an additional contractor on the £450m development and the company worked on the £50m phase of the project to build student accommodation and student facilities, creating an additional 545 bedrooms to be occupied by 2016. It will also include a gym, sports hall, Student Union offices and a crèche.
The new campus officially opened on September 21st 2015.
