In 1998 three school friends gave up their professional careers and returned back to the South Wales Valley to pursue their dreams of owning an activity centre with a difference.

Establishing Call of the Wild has since put them very much on the map when it comes to training and activity days out.  Having celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2009, it is not surprising that they are now one of the largest and oldest companies in Wales.

Call of the Wild offers a range of high adrenaline outdoor activities for all ages and capabilities, along with management training and team building and boasts a client base from across the UK and Europe including Orange, Admiral and BMW.  Mark Soanes, one of the Directors said “it is always reassuring to know that our work is being recognised and the contribution we make to the economy is not underestimated.

The effective use of ICT has been a significant factor in the growth and development of the company. This was recognised when the company won the Swansea Bay Tourism Awards “Best Use of Technology” category in 2009 to add to their “Welsh Small Business of the Year” and “National Team Building Company of the Year” awards both won in 2008.

The Local Investment Fund (LIF) Grant enabled the company to undertake further enhancements to their website, which has been such an important e-marketing tool in the development of their customer base both in the UK and across Europe. The objective of the improvements to the website was to target new customer groups.

Mark Soanes, one of the company’s directors’ said of the LIF support:
“This was a more user friendly grant application process than I have previously experienced. There was an accelerated processing period which means a fast turnaround for projects that have to take place in a short time frame.”

The company are committed to ensuring clients are introduced to the wonderful local environment with a view to enhancing their learning, appreciation and enjoyment of the unique countryside within Neath, Gower and the Brecon Beacons National Park whilst enjoying the breathtaking views of the area.

It is an attitude like this that has enabled Call of the Wild to celebrate its twelfth anniversary and will see them building from strength to strength.
