Community Benefits

Community benefits are now commonly written into corporate contracts, sometimes referred to as a company's corporate social responsibility, targeted recruitment and training, social clause or even social requirement, they can cover a range of areas but what does it mean for NPT?

Neath Port Talbot CBC is committed to promoting Sustainable Development through our policies, strategies and services, thus achieving best value for money in the widest sense. The aim is to build stronger communities, reduce social exclusion and poverty and encourage the development of the economy. When delivering infrastructure projects Neath Port Talbot are pursuing Community Benefits to contribute to the social, economic and environmental well-being of the wider community.

Successful contractors are expected to work with the Council’s Community Benefits Officer to maximise the community benefits delivered through contracts.  Through its Corporate Plan the Council is committed to providing sustainable employment and training to help local people into work, sometimes referred to as Targeted Recruitment and Training (TR&T). 

The Community Benefits Officer is available to help the main Contractor and Subcontractors achieve all community benefits, in particular the TR&T requirements and to support the local Supply Chain through events such as Meet the Buyer, where local SME's have the opportunity to meet the developer and tender for local contracts.

Additional benefits include the Neath Port Talbot Employer Support Group (ESG), a partnership group with a single point of contact which brings together a wide range of organisations to support the employment and recruitment needs of local businesses and potential new investors to the area.  The group exists to improve employment and training opportunities and to provide an efficient service to businesses to help them access support.
